Abstracts by the colorful Alejandro Santiago and other contemporary artists, such as Roldolfo Morales and Adan Paredes, are hung along side the work of established painters such as Diego Rivera as examples of the Bond Gallery’s varied collection of Latin art.

If you are fortunate enough to live in a community with an Art Museum

Portrait of Madame Rachele Osterlind, 1919m there is
always something exciting going on and you should you pay a visit.
While the exhibits are not the big super shows of the Met or MOMA, you will not likely be crushed by the crowds and will be given the chance to really see the painting and other art work. The Nassau County Museum of Art, NY is exhibiting “THE SUBJECT IS WOMEN: Impressionism and
Post-Impressionism” featuring the work of Cassatt, Degas, Pissarro, Renoir and Modigliani.
It most likely to cold to walk the gardens and maybe you will return when its warmer (approx 200 acres). If you are living out on the Island it is good to know that you don’t need to travel into the great city to enjoy the arts.

2 artists, Carol Mead and Terri Hill, created the water colors for the show, “Cruz’n- Scenes of Santa Cruz” at the bay area Viewpoints Gallery in Los Altos, CA.
Beautiful, saturated colors enhance their images of summer – beaches, amusement parks, and boardwalks.
Lovely and fun.

Bay area artist, Arthur Okamura, 1932 – 2009, did screen printing, painting and drawing. His first exhibition was with Braunstein/Quay Gallery in 1981, showing works from his travels to Indonesia. “A tireless and gifted artist, Okamura had recently completed a body of Zen influenced paintings and drawings. This exhibition will include early as well as new paintings and other works.”

When living in New York, it was a short walk to visit a number of Museums. The Guggenheim was one of my favorites. Just take the elevator to the top and start viewing.
Yesterday, wanting to watch something other then football, we came across the movie “The International” which has

Blue Mountain - Vasily Kandinsky
as one of its main action scenes a gun battle that starts at the top of The Guggenheim, goes on forever, and destroys a good portion of what I love about this museum. Even though its all make believe, I found it a little insensitive, mean and experienced pain every time a painting or a wall was riddled with holes.
The Guggenheim is still standing, in good shape and a perfect place to visit. There is currently an exhibit of over 150 works of art by Vasily Kandinsky, that take you chronologically through his Artistic transformation. The exhibit ends January 13, 2010

There are a number of exhibits that I would love to see. Most are local, meaning that they most

Horst Janssen Self Portrait
likely will not travel to other cities.
- Horst Janssen. The art of Friendship – A selection of more than 80 works from the collections of Klaus Hegewisch at the The Hamburger Kunsthalle 13 November 2009 – 11 April 2010
- Paul McCarthy White Snow at the Hauser & Wirth Gallery in New York, exhibit ends December 24.
- Arshile Gorky in Context at the Philadelphia Museum of Art until January 10, 2010, features the works of artist that had an impact on Gorky’s own work.
