I had the pleasure of going to the opening of the King Tut exhibit at the Franklin Institute Science Museum in Philadelphia. I promised myself to really see the Egyptian Art as Art…as being able to offer me more than just being an archeological artifact. When I was younger, Egyptian art was usually relegated to History class not Art History class. I wanted to appreciate each piece as artistically distinct, emotive and possessing an aesthetic. The first thing I noticed was how much my own art is influence by Egyptian Art. I always thought Klimt was the dominant influence, however Egyptian Art also involves murals, exploits a flatter 2 dimensional feel, uses loads of gold leaf and elaborate detailed graphic design. I was enraptured.
